WBBM/Chicago, IL Assistant News Director – Production May 21, 2009
JOB ID 1833BR Collaborate in the redevelopment and leadership of WBBM’s broadcast and digital news operations with particular focus on presentation, packaging, production and storytelling techniques. Provide strategic leadership in the development and execution of differentiated programming that will engage and grow audiences on-air and in new media. Collaborate in the creation of other programming that extends the reach and impact of WBBM-TV. Planning and execution of the production of regularly scheduled news programs. Development of production styles on air and on line that effectively showcast original, enterprise content. Create professional environment that encourages innovation and responsible risk taking. Create production strategies to increase demographic performance in all newscasts. Write, copy edit, and post scripts across all platforms. Hire and manage performance of direct reports. Develop the performance of individual contributors (such as producers and anchors) as well as the systems and the relationships within the newsroom. Provide leadership during major breaking and planned events on-air and on-line. Proactively communicate and interact across all station departments. Support the News Director in the management of the entire department.
Perform other duties as assigned. Proven expertise in contemporary television news and digital production. Excellent creative judgment and experience in developing competitively differentiated approaches to telling stories and producing newscasts. Strong news judgment in a commercial competitive environment. Exemplary management and communication skills. Ability to lead staff through a time of transformation. Commitment to coach, train, and mentor staff. Work hours as required; weekend on-call.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communication or Mass Media. Minimum of 5 years of news management and leadership experience.

Ability to lead staff members through a time of transformation. Commitment to coach, train and mentor staff. Thorough familiarity with contemporary television and digital production techniques. Work hours as required; weekend on-call.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communication or Mass Media, Minimum of 5 years of news management and leadership experience. PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES: Planning and execution of daily news coverage, Strategic and tactical leadership of special projects, franchise reporting and other editorial efforts, Create an environment that focuses accountability on original source journalism and enterprise content development, Write, copy edit, and post scripts across all platforms. Hire and manage performance of direct reports, Develop the performance of individual contributors (such as reporters and assignment editors) as well as the systems and the relationships within the newsroom.
